HINTS FOR SUCCESSFUL SNAKE TRAPPING/SNAKE SAFE

As with all animal trapping you need to deploy the trap where the taget animal will find it.
All animals need food, and shelter from heat, cold and predators
Therefore the best place to trap snakes is where their food and shelter are available at one
location.
Obviously if your problem snake is seen regularly in an area e.g. a rockery, back of
shed, shade house, etc.etc .then that is the place to deploy your Snake Trap.
To get the best results from your a little knowledge of snake ecology
and animal behaviour may be helpful. Unlike many mammal species, snakes do not rely on airborne scent to find their prey. Instead they “taste” their surroundings using their forked tongue to pick up scent molecules left on the substrate by prey animals.
Most snakes which are dangerous to humans eat small mammals, at least in the adult stage of their life. Close to human habitation the most common small mammals are usually vermin such as Black rats and House mice.
Shrubbery and grasses in combination with structure such as rocks and logs, or buildings, provide the food and shelter requirements of these vermin. This vegetation and structure also provides shelter for snakes, while the vermin provide their food. The availability of fresh water, although not essential, further enhances habitat quality for snakes. Aviaries, stables and farm sheds with adjacent shrubbery and grasses therefore also provide prime locations for Snake Trap deployment.
When you have chosen a promising Snake Trap deployment location you can further improve your chances of success by carefully camouflaging your Snake Trap with vegetation or discarded building materials.
Always keep the “scenting media” in your deployed Snake Trap as fresh as possible. We recommend using fresh media after one month of Snake Trap deployment.
When snakes are searching for prey they are constantly picking up prey scent of a variety of ages or strengths. It stands to reason that the fresher the scent in your media the more likely it is that a snake will investigate your Snake Trap.
Keep in mind that in some species of snake, the female stops feeding during pregnancy. If you repeatedly see a snake at one location and the species is known to feed on rodents, but refuses to enter your trap, it could be a pregnant female. If this situation arises you should seek advice from your local qualified snake expert, or contact us.
